This year our Eco Council are taking part in the Wheelie Big Challenge in an effort to reduce waste and promote recycling in our school. This involved taking part in a workshop in which we learnt more about reducing waste and how we can reuse and recycle different materials. We also carried out a waste audit by sorting through the rubbish in our bins and weighing the amount of food waste, recyclable waste and non-recyclable waste. We will continue to monitor the waste in our bins throughout the year and ensure our pupils our putting rubbish into the correct bins and recycling where possible.
On ‘Wear Green Be Green’ Day our Eco Council led an assembly to explain our ‘Waste free Wednesdays’ initiative to the whole school. They did a brilliant job explaining the importance of reducing waste and recycling and reusing things where possible. They shared lots of good ideas and tips for packing a waste free lunch including using reusable containers and water bottles and avoiding single use plastic items. They will continue to monitor the amount of rubbish in our bins this term to measure the impact of our ‘Waste Free Wednesdays’ initiative.
